How to Play Padel

Check out our Quick Start Guide to Enjoy your Game

Padel is a racket sport played on a rectangular court surrounded by glass walls and metal fencing, combining elements of tennis and squash. It is mainly played in doubles (2 vs 2), making it a dynamic, social, and accessible game for all ages.

The Playing Court

• Dimensions: The court measures 10×20 meters, divided by a net in the center.
• Walls: The glass walls and metal fences around the court are part of the game, allowing for strategic shots.
• Equipment: Players use specialized rackets (smaller than tennis rackets) and a ball similar to a tennis ball but with slightly less pressure.

How to Play?

Padel follows many tennis rules, but with unique differences:

  1. Starting the Match:
    • The game begins with an underhand serve behind the service line.
    • The ball must bounce in the opposite service box of the opponent’s side.
  2. Game Dynamics:
    • The ball can hit the glass walls after bouncing on the ground, but cannot be hit directly against the opponent’s walls.
    • Players can use wall rebounds to send the ball back, creating tactical shots.
  3. Scoring:
    • The scoring system is the same as tennis: 15, 30, 40, and advantage.
    • To win a set, a team needs to win 6 games with a 2-game advantage. In case of a tie (6-6), a tie-break is played.
  4.  Faults:
    • It’s considered a fault if:
    • The ball bounces twice on your side.
    • The ball hits the opponent’s walls directly without bouncing on the ground.
    • A player touches the net with their body or racket.
  5. Side Change:
    • Players switch sides every odd game (e.g., 1-0, 3-2) to ensure fair play.

Main Rules

  • The game is always played in doubles.
  • The serve must be made underhand.
  • The ball can bounce off the walls after hitting the ground first.
  • Scoring follows the tennis system.
  • Players cannot touch the net with their body or racket.

Strategies and Hints

  •  Teamwork: Padel is a team sport. Communicate with your partner and work together.
  • Use the Walls: Learn to use wall rebounds to create unpredictable shots.
  • Positioning: Stay in motion and anticipate the opponent’s shots.
